Verruca are a viral infection that can occur on the sole or toes of the foot. They can sometimes be self limiting but treatment is generally recommended to lessen symptoms (which may include pain), decrease duration and reduce transmission. First line treatment is generally using over the counter preparations, with salicylic acid treatments being the most effective. Second line treatment may include cryotherapy or caustic therapy, which are aggressive treatments and can cause discomfort for a period of time. Treatment also involves keeping the foot dry and padded and may require consecutive weekly appointments.
Therapeutic ultrasound may be used for any conditions where there is an inflammatory component including ligament sprains, muscle strains, tendonitis, joint inflammation, plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, bursitis and scar tissue adhesions.
At Suzanne Hardiman Podiatry we are able to offer you a biomechanical assessment which examines the structure, strengths and weaknesses of your lower limbs. The assessment usually takes between 45 – 60 minutes and requires patients to wear shorts or loose fitting trousers that can be rolled up to the knee, in order for the assessment to be carried out thoroughly.
A biomechanical assessment is particularly beneficial if you are experiencing pain in your feet or lower limbs. Once an assessment has taken place, the podiatrist can recommend a suitable treatment such as simple insoles or custom made orthotics as well as exercises. We are also able to provide Flopthotics. A bespoke flipflop manufactured just for your feet to provide you with unique support, just like orthotics.
