Verruca are a viral infection that can occur on the sole or toes of the foot. They can sometimes be self limiting but treatment is generally recommended to lessen symptoms (which may include pain), decrease duration and reduce transmission. First line treatment is generally using over the counter preparations, with salicylic acid treatments being the most effective. Second line treatment may include cryotherapy or caustic therapy, which are aggressive treatments and can cause discomfort for a period of time. Treatment also involves keeping the foot dry and padded and may require consecutive weekly appointments. At the clinic we are now able to offer Verrutop, a topical verruca treatment that is applied every 2 weeks and has been particularly effective with younger children.
Therapeutic ultrasound may be used for any conditions where there is an inflammatory component including ligament sprains, muscle strains, tendonitis, joint inflammation, plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, bursitis and scar tissue adhesions.
